Giorgia Palombi

I love experimenting with mosaic, challenging the inherent characteristics of this medium

static, coldness, two-dimensionality, hardness and heaviness

through the introduction of mobile components, innovative felt materials, soft fabrics and three-dimensional elements. This is why I am known as the Metamosaic artist – a new art form invented by me

halfway between mosaic, sculpture, painting and installation

Mosaics transcend their limits to the point of almost dematerializing, as in the case of the Shibori Metamosaics.

A bit like Piero Gilardil’s Nature Carpets, my Metamosaics amaze and intrigue the viewer by offering him a new experience of mosaic:

the experience becomes interactive and tactile and generates an emotional contrast between the known and the new.

In my Sensory Metamosaics, static gives way to movement, cold gives way to heat.

I want to take people by the hand and let them enter the magical world of matter, where three-dimensionality emerges only by observing more closely, so that an attentive and curious eye can discover unexpected textures and details, details that I love to amplify by subverting the proportions of the world real, so as to incite the spectator to a playful and intriguing, but never banal, “treasure hunt”

My goal is to rekindle the spark of wonder, that state of excitement and total presence that we all enjoyed as children while playing: a state of free creativity, in which time and space are “limitless” and above all in which everything is fluid and possible, as in Dalì’s dream dimension and in lucid dreaming.

I firmly believe that

“When we experience wonder, we become more altruistic and less self-centered.We feel a greater connection through humanity,”

as Kaywin Feldman, director of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, says.

The theme of connection is very close to my heart, which is why I developed the international transpersonal projects Wonder Lanterns (or Human Mosaic):

it is a network of “Stargates” – monumental portals installed in various cities around the world – and a series of personalized three-dimensional sculptural Metamosaics made only on commission, aimed at all those people who, even in adulthood, wish to protect and light up the flame of wonder.

Now the Wonder Lantern project is evolving

Don’t miss the opportunity to enter the Portal of Wonders

My Story

My name is Giorgia Palombi, creator of Metamosaic World.
I am known for Metamosaics, abstract and experimental compositions that transcend the limits of the mosaic to the point of almost dematerializing its tiles – and for the transpersonal project Lanterns of Wonder, through which I am giving life to a Human Metamosaic, an international community of collectors and dreamers who wish to safeguard and fuel the flame of wonder.
In 1998 I graduated from the Art Institute of Rome and immediately afterwards Iamia began her career in the art world as a restorer, participating in prestigious restoration projects at the Codornata Capitolina, Palazzo Braschi and the Chiesa del Gesu.
Once I have mastered the restoration techniques, I begin to wonder if retouching existing works of art is my real vocation.

After a short pause for reflection, I decide to dedicate myself to the study and creation of mosaic, a medium in which I perfect myself in all its possible applications and with which I have worked successfully both in Italy and abroad for public and private clients since 2001. to 2018.
In the meantime, I am attending the degree course in Interior Design and Architecture at the La Sapienza University of Rome.
Starting from 2018, I dedicate myself to experimentation and breaking the traditional rules of mosaic to develop my authorial voice which culminates with the Metamosaics (mainly Sensory Metamosaics and Shibori Metamosaics) and the Lanterns of Wonder (Human Metamosaics), projects that arouse appreciation and interest at an international level.
